The relationship between alcohol use and cognitive performance was assessed longitudinally. A non-linear relationship was observed. Those who very rarely consume alcohol performed better than moderate drinkers but as consumption increased beyond moderate consumption performance declined. We suggest that to preserve cognitive performance drinkers should limit their average daily consumption to 8 grams of alcohol.
