What We're Doing:
We're exploring how tough experiences in early childhood, like facing threats or getting adopted, might change the way our brains are built and how they work. We're especially interested in two things that our bodies can show us: inflammation (a bit like when a cut becomes red and swollen) and telomere length (tiny parts at the end of our DNA that can tell us about our health).
Why We're Doing It:
We believe that by understanding these changes in the brain and what our bodies show, we can get clues about how early tough times might affect our health as we grow up. This knowledge can help us find ways to support those who've had challenging starts in life.
