Respiratory diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, interstitial lung disease, and lung cancer, account for a large proportion of global disease burden. Therefore, it is essential to accurately identify the risk factors for respiratory diseases and to develop personalized prevention and control strategies. Previous researches have demonstrated that traditional environmental factors and unhealthy lifestyles are associated with the incidence of respiratory diseases. However, the causal effects and potential interactions between clinical, genetic, biological and lifestyle factors on these respiratory diseases have not been thoroughly investigated. Furthermore, the potential relationships between respiratory diseases and other diseases, such as cardiovascular, neurological, chronic kidney, and digestive diseases, have not been fully elucidated. In our research, we plan to first investigate how various factors, such as genetic susceptibilities, environmental exposures, biological factors, lifestyle behaviors, clinical determinants, and biochemical markers interact and influence respiratory diseases (such as infectious diseases, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary embolism, asthma and respiratory neoplasms). Subsequently, we will delve deeper into genetic information, multi-omics sequencing, and biological data to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying respiratory diseases.
Our series of studies aim to provide evidence-based medicine to achieve early prevention, early diagnosis, and individualized treatment of respiratory diseases, while improving patient prognosis and ultimately reducing the socioeconomic burden of respiratory diseases. We anticipate the project duration to be 36 months.
