This data field gives the acquisition protocol used to capture liver MRI images as part of the analysis of Field 40060, Field 40061 and Field 40062 in Category 126 (Liver MRI).
Between 7 July 2016 and 30 October 2016 there was a gradual replacement of bulk data field 20203 "Liver imaging - gradient echo - DICOM" with bulk data field 20254 "Liver imaging - IDEAL protocol - DICOM". Both of these acquisitions are multi-echo gradient echo sequences from which measures of liver fat and liver iron can be derived. Due to this change in imaging protocol there may be systematic differences in derived measures which researchers may wish to take into account when relating to other measures.
"Proton density fat fraction (PDFF)" (Field 40061) is produced from analysis of either "Liver imaging - gradient echo - DICOM" (Field 20203) or "Liver imaging - IDEAL protocol - DICOM" (Field 20254).
"Liver iron (Fe)" (Field 40060) is produced from analysis of either "Liver imaging - gradient echo - DICOM" (Field 20203) or "Liver imaging - IDEAL protocol - DICOM" (Field 20254).
"Liver iron corrected T1 (ct1)" (Field 40062) is produced from analysis of "Liver Imaging - T1 ShMoLLI - DICOM" (Field 20204) and either "Liver imaging - gradient echo - DICOM" (Field 20203) or "Liver imaging - IDEAL protocol - DICOM" (Field 20254).
