Abstract
Diffusion tractography is a unique tool for building representations of the connections in the human brain both non-invasively and in vivo. Traditional diffusion tractography is a time-consuming process, requiring a researcher to manually extract these connections from MRI brain images. Using a wide range of data, including data from the UK Biobank, we have developed a toolbox which performs standardised and automated diffusion tractography to extract representations of the major connections in the human brain XTRACT. The toolbox has been demonstrated to be reliable and robust in extracting these major connections and is now freely available within a leading neuroimage analysis software package (FSL). Researchers may use the toolbox on their own MRI data to extract the major brain connections in a way that is standardised across the toolbox users, thus improving reproducibility within the field of diffusion tractography and contributing to open science.
