⏵ Bone-densitometry of heel
This category contains data on bone mineral density (BMD) based on an ultrasound measurement of the calcaneus, using the Sahara Clinical Bone Sonometer. The Sonometer estimates BMD by measuring the speed of sound and broadband ultrasound attenuation. These results are combined to give the Quantitative Ultrasound Index. From this an estimate is made of BMD, and a T-score, which is a person's BMD compared with what is normally expected in a healthy adult of their sex. In the early stages of recruitment only a single foot was used for the measurement (the side being recorded), however in the later stages the measurement was taken on both feet.
